He was born on July 29, 1973 in Moscow, Russia, into a family of a well-known master restorer and expert of stringed instruments, Vadim Andreevich Strelnikov.
Her first teacher and mentor was her father, who instilled in her aesthetic taste, discipline, and basic requirements of violin making and restoration of stringed instruments.
At the age of 19 she began to master the art of the violin making under the tutelage of Yury Pochekin and Nikolaj Stasov.
While working as a luthier, she also enrolled in the Strogаnov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry, in the faculty of Furniture Restoration, from which she graduated in 1998.
In 1999 she left Russia and moved to Cremona , Italy where she entered the Antonio Stradivari International Violin Making School, IPIALL. In 2004 she graduated from IPIALL and received her diploma.
From 2007–2008 she attended a course for the construction of authentic Baroque instruments (baroque violins, viola da gamba, baroque bows), while also continuing her practice under the supervision of Alberto Giordano in Genova, Italy.
From 2009–2010 Maria was enrolled in the Modern Bow Making School in Cremona and received an international diploma.
Since 2011 until today she collaborates with Boris Sverdlik, an internationally renowned luthier and master restorer in his workshop in Cremona.
On September 10th –12th, 2014 Maria Strelnikova won 1st prize for her viola and 2nd prize for her violin and received a diploma for her 3rd instrument in the International Competition of the Violin Makers "Violin: Soul and Shape", that was held in Moscow, Russia. During the same year, Maria Strelnikova opened up her own workshop in the heart of Cremona, Italy, where she builds her own stringed instruments.
